Description: The Refuted are Chthonians that appear to be liquid shadows crawling from the ground. They have the appearance of starving humans with 3 elongated claws and glowing red eyes.
Behavior: The Refuted are a unique case in Vallice as they do not appear to be Chthonian. The Refuted are hostile to Chthonians, and in turn, Chthonians are hostile to them. There have been multiple conflicts between The Refuted and Chthonians. These conflicts may explain why Chthonians are so hostile to humans as we share a resemblance to The Refuted. This is assuming The Refuted predates human Chthonian interaction. The Refuted are believed to be decaying souls constantly chasing to repair themselves. They achieve this by breaking the souls of other living Chthonians and using the remains to repair themselves although as of now it is fruitless. Some legends say The Refuted were The Chthonian gods attempt to create humans like his sisters but in his hatred towards humanity condemned them to this fate.
Threat: The Refuted are violent towards any living creature that is not themselves. They also are resistant to most traditional methods of killing a Chthonian. Bullets pass through them, lacerations are rapidly healed, and The Refuted keeps advancing. A conflict with The Refuted is one of the few times explorers reported to have had Chthonians fight with them instead of against them.
