Chthonian: Purgatory Plant
Name: Purgatory Plant
Alternate Name: Mourning Glory
Description: Purgatory Plants are one of the Unborn Remains. A set of four Chthonians that are a result of Infant Chthonians not surviving the birth process. If an infant does not survive in its fruit the corpse will fall to the ground and be absorbed into it. In some cases, the fetus sprouts roots and a stem on its back that grows into the Purgatory Plant.
Behavior: Purgatory Plants will stay exactly where they are. They always burn and their flames and these flames never seem to go out. The flame is incapable of burning anything and reports of those who touch the flame describe it as cold. Occasionally the leaves will bloom into fluffy collections of seeds that fly into the wind. These seeds will catch fire almost immediately burning the exact same colour as the flame of the plant and just as that flame make the area cooler than normal. Purgatory Plants that are well taken care of or that are shown affection have been observed doing this often. If an explorer picks the flower, the fetus at the roots will begin to wail until it is replanted.
Threat: Purgatory Plant is not a threat to humans although if picked from the ground can attract the attention of other Chthonians. If an explorer wishes to take a Purgatory Plant, it is advised they dig up the dirt around it to keep the fetus buried or carry a vase with them to reduce the chances of attracting other Chthonians.
