Chthonian: Infant

Alternate Name: None. This is a stage of life
Description: Infants look like small imps without legs. They have fins instead of paws and their tails are much longer than the average Imp. They have furry bodies and are always wearing masks like Imps. The mask they wear very much like Imps, however there is no pattern or correlation recorded in the types of masks. They can only be found inside the fruits of the Twilight Trees.
Behavior: Infants are what all Chthonians start their lives as. Within the fruit they start out as a fetus-like Chthonian and eventually grow into this form. Infants spend their entire life inside the fruits swimming around and drinking the juices. When they get big enough, the fruit will burst and they will fall to the ground before rapidly maturing into whatever Chthonian they will become. Sometimes an Infant does not survive the process though. An infant can die both while within the fruit or when hitting the ground. In these cases, the corpse rapidly shrivels back into a young fetus-like shape and is absorbed into the ground. Shortly after one of four Chthonians emerge from the ground. These Chthonians are called “Unborn Remains.”
Threat:
There Infant is no threat. Some travelers have noticed they are friendly and show curiosity towards humans who come near their fruit. Some travelers have plucked this fruit and taken the Infant with them. This is dangerous as once the fruit bursts the explorer is making a gamble about what it will mature into. Travelers have created a phrase:
“Do not pick golden fruit that is not ripe, lest you come face to face with Solitude. Should you take the risk, pray what grows is a lotus.”
