Chthonian: Dirge’s Dogma
Name: Dirge’s Dogma
Alternate Name: Floating Flute
Description: Dirge’s Dogma is one of the Unborn Remains. A set of four Chthonians that are a result of Infant Chthonians not surviving the birth process. If an infant does not survive in its fruit, the corpse will fall to the ground and be absorbed into the earth. On some occasions, the soil will form around their tails into a flute-like shape. These flutes will remain on the ground for an indeterminable period of time before an ethereal being manifests and claims the flute. This ethereal figure looks like a humanoid with two eyes and a third placed vertically on the forehead. They have horns which are connected to an orb that emits a fuzzy light.
Behavior: The flute remains completely motionless until claimed by the ethereal creature. The creature will then roam with the flute occasionally playing it. The sound produced by the flute is the sound so a Chthonian child singing. The songs are described as “ghastly yet beautiful.” If the flute is claimed before the ethereal being appears the new owner has no noticeable effects.
Threat: Dirge’s Dogma are no threat to humans. They appear to not have any hostility to humans that have interacted with them and have even been reported playing songs for them. On occasions when explorers claimed the flute, they report having a loving presence with them when they play it.
