Chthonian: Akumomonga
Name: Akumomonga
Alternate Name: Angry Acorn
Description: Akumomonga are Chthonians that appear to be an upside-down acorn with squirrel legs and a tail. The shell of the acorn has a “cute” face although this is a false face similar eyespots found on other animals. Underneath the shell is a spectral squirrel-like Chthonian.
Behavior: Akumomonga are aggressive and playful Chthonians. They enjoy playing pranks and scaring the Chthonians and people around them. Pranks include headbutting individuals, creating sounds to scare them, stealing belongings, and breaking equipment. Though this may be annoying to travelers they are not very successful at any of this and are more seen as an annoyance. Akumomonga are one of the most common Chthonian found across Vallice. They inhabit every region and in large numbers. This Chthonian often travel in large packs. What is interesting is they seem to develop militant behavior on occasion. Akumomonga have been seen walking in various formations and even stacking on top of each other to form “watch towers”. There does not seem to be a leader for these groups and the formations can often break into a herd with no observable formation. Akumomonga will also join and leave the group at will.
Threat: Akumomonga are one of the many Chthonian who are hostile to humans. Despite their intense hatred for humans, their small size often makes them not much of a threat. The worst their headbutts can do is leave a nasty bruise and their claws only leave small cuts. Akumomonga should be respected though as stated before they travel in groups. If you come across a group, they become a much larger nuisance as they can inflict more harm or may change tactics to stealing an explorer’s supplies. If an explorer comes across a group of Akumomonga they should attempt to remove the acorn shell as the Chthonian underneath is timid and will run off.
